The Inversion Method – Grow 1 Inch Of Hair In 7 Days!

Upside downHow To Do The Inversion Method

It’s easy peasy really . . .

Measure a small piece of your hair and take a photo. An inch is not a great deal in the greater scheme of things so you are unlikely to see a difference with your naked eye.

Place the oil in an suitable applicator bottle then heat it up in a mug of hot water. You can also do this in the microwave (not too hot of course, just warm). Apply a little oil to your scalp and massage thoroughly making sure to get the entire scalp.

After that invert yourself in the way you find most comfortable. You can stand with your head touching your knees, do a dramatic upside down yoga pose or just lie or sit on your bed and allow your head to drop down.

Stay inverted for 4 minutes and repeat this for 7 consecutive days. That’s it!

How Often To Do It

Can you do the inversion method every day for a month to gain 4 inches? Errm, no. Have you ever heard of people becoming blind later in life and then finding that their other senses become enhanced very quickly thereafter? Yes, the sting in the tail is that the human body adapts pretty quickly so if done too often, the inversion method will simply stop working as your body adapts to it.

The consensus seems to be that you should only do this method for 1 week per month. Get your inch and that’s it, don’t be greedy!

Possible side effects

Head rush – Not a problem of course unless you are ill or preggers. The method should only be done by healthy individuals.

Vertigo – Same as head rush.

Scalp build up – That oil’s not going anywhere folks so those sensitive to build up may find themselves dealing with itchiness. Small price to pay for an inch of hair I would imagine but certainly worth mentioning.

Aside from that I really can’t forsee any major issues.

Evidence

None scientific of course but lots of anecdotal evidence on youtube and instagram so take your pick and be inspired.

Among others one of the most compelling videos I have found so far is by YouTuber JourneyToWaistLength who did the method for a week and indeed her hair appears to have grown by an inch in 7 days.

tape measure

The applicator bottle that she is using is the Roots Only comb applicator bottle.

Wanna try?

The way I see it and correct me if I’m wrong, the worst that could happen if it doesn’t work is that you waste a bit of oil or get a head rush. It’s certainly a safer hair growth technique than taking supplements in my book so there’s little reason not to try.

Being a slow grower myself I am suitably skeptical but I will certainly be giving it a go.

Will you try the inversion technique? Post your process and results in the comments below.

I’ve always been skeptical of the inversion method. I practice yoga nearly 5-6 days a week and spend about 20 minutes a day inverted when doing my headstands and forearm stands… no growth spurts around these parts lol!

  3. 11

I’m excited! Im going to try it tonight. Thanks for sharing!

  4. 13

Markisha S Williams check this out. I want to try it.

  10. 24

Any oil that’s natural is ok

That is true about the inversion method being around for a number of yrs. I have come across this method in the 80′s. But some of the YouTube vids are inaccurate as far as how long you can invert your head and what you could use on your hair. Of course you could use oils on your hair, it won’t hurt. But some of the advice given on YT is to use oil, massage for a certain amount of time, then leave oil on for 1-2 hrs. then rinse out. This last step is not necessary. As far how long you could invert your head is anywhere between 15-20 mins. or more. People buy what they call “inversion” tables that is for back pain and you are inverted upside down for the time period I mentioned above. Also as Jeni posted below people who practice yoga invert their heads for more than 4 mins. without any danger. Those with high blood pressure, heart problems or those who get dizzy should avoid the IM. Hair growth? It has caused 1 inch a week for me. But also realize that it might not work for everyone. From YT, I tried MN (vaginal antifungal cream) and that broke my hair off.

Very interesting, I had no idea that the method had been around that long. I’m interested in finding out if you are doing this method weekly or if it’s over a 1 week period only per month as the youtubers seem to suggest?

  12. 27

    this is defin worth trying!

  13. 28

love this gotta do my measurement tomorrow.

  14. 29

need to remember before and after fotos next month

  15. 30

Shanique Buntyn after you invert what do you do afterwards? Do you style as usual or shampoo it out?? Will coconut oil work as well???

  16. 32

    Thank you Shanique Buntyn

I will be trying it. But aftr the hair challenge

  18. 34

I tried it a couple times in one week without the massage (I did it just before getting out of bed). I feel that it worked for me because my body was not used to me being in that position. I read where it’s best to do this for one week once a month this way your body won’t get used to this method and no longer cause a growth spurt. For those who are new to this method you may see growth – I did!

  19. 35

@Sharron Jones I already had a quite a lot of new growth being that I’m 11 weeks but I have noticed that it has become harder to comb and very quickly so I assume I have obtained some more growth and really do think it is working. When I had did a length check it was on wet hair and I wash weekly and I pulled it down but I can’t compare length to dry hair

  20. 36

Wow! Never thought to try this!

  21. 37

i will definitely try this and post my results!

I am back letting you all know that this actually works! :) I started doing this after I wrote the above post 3 days ago and I just checked it tonight to see how things were going, In the front and back before I did this method I had 7 in in those sections. on the sides my hair was 7 1/2 in. Well tonight my front measures 8 in and my sides measure 8 in and my back measures 7 1/2 in. I am so happy that I saw this! Thank you for posting this! :)

      • 39

Wow, extraordinary Tiffany! I’m checking my results tomorrow, can’t wait to see what happens….

          Tiffany M says:

Thank you very much! How did your results turn out? :) figured to give it a shot since my hair broke off during my first year of growing it out. I’m approaching my 2nd yr of growing out my hair (I’ve been natural for a long time, but I shaved my hair for a couple of years and decided to grow it back out Dec 11) and I thought that this would help. From stress to the pregnancy and not doing my hair and knowing what to really do, my hair was falling out so this is why I was only at 7in approaching my 2nd yr of growing out my hair. Now that I have this and am documenting what I do on my blog, I am finally growing my hair and in a more healthy way. I took my protective style down for this week since I am doing this method still, but I will put one back in when my 7 days are up. I hope that you got some great results! Also, I found your personal blog last night and I’m loving it! If you could please follow (or even check it out..I will definitely appreciate it) my blog that would be amazing! I just started it not that long ago and I’ve been very confused how to promote it since I don’t have a facebook or a twitter. http://fearfullynaturalbeautifullymade.blogspot.com

          • 41

Hi Tiffany, I’m about to do a video showing my final results after 7 days so I don’t know yet. I will report back to let you know though :)

Thanks for sharing your blog hun, I’ve said it before but I will say it again, I love your fro!

I’ll tell ya, the hardest part about blogging is promotion, trust me. It takes a while but if you keep persevering, you will get there. Might I suggest that you look at link to problogger.net They are one of the best resources out there for bloggers starting out. Good luck!

          • 42

Thank you so much for your kind words, help, and support! :) I’ve been looking at the website that you’ve recommended and I love it! Thank you so much because it is hard trying to get your blog up and running for people to see. I was online and I saw this and I just started laughing. This girl said that this inversion method was her idea and if anyone uses this and doesn’t give her credit, she will report them. lol smh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxmZntIuQ_o&feature=g-vrec I was just like this girl just don’t know. There is nothing new under the sun.

          • 43

LOL, ppl apparently used to do this method back in the 80′s so I don’t think she will have much luck in copyrighting the idea!

lol I was sitting at the computer laughing because I never ever heard someone say that they would take on somebody for plagiarizing something that isn’t even theirs. I was like she had to learn this from somewhere so evidently it wasn’t her idea. I did go through her comments for a little bit and I didn’t see any black people on there, but I had to let her and everyone know it is called the Inversion Method and sorry, she didn’t come up with this like all of them think that she did. People were getting scared that if they did this and didn’t mention her name, that they would be reported. smh

  22. 45

Soo do you do it everyday to see the results in a week? @shanique

  23. 47

@shanique Buntyn or anyone can you do this with braids?

I tried this last month and it appears to have worked. It wasn’t a whole inch, but I’d say half an inch, which is still good. I also skipped on two or three days. Im trying it again this week. I’m taking pics this time.

    • 51

Would love to hear your results the second time round. Lots of ppl trying it for the first time say that it works but I want to see if there’s consistency in using the method…

  26. 52

WOW my mom told me about this when I was like 12. i’m 24 now. this is something VERY old

  27. 53

Will washing my hair daily for the 7 days cause zero results from the inversion method?

    • 54

It should still work Viv. Caucasian women on Youtube had excellent results even though they washed straight after each massage and inversion.

  28. 55

I have done this. I try to do the inversion on the first week of the month. It works for me. When i finish the inversion i already see a half an inch of new growth. And with low manpulation styles i will have at least an inch of new growth.

  29. 56

So after applying the oil and inverting do u wash after each night?

  30. 58

Hey. I watched your video a few days ago and all… Ironically, looking for an answer to one question I had, I popped up into your website.
Ok, my question is do you have to apply oil to your head everyday for this to work? I mean.. It’s gonna be greasy looking and all if I do that.. But just asking. I really wanna do this.

    • 59

Presumably yes you have to apply the oil daily. It does not make for a happy scalp, trust me. lol. Some ladies are washing their hair daily/every other day with this method so really it depends on you and your upper limit for greasiness.

Interesting. I have heard of this and I will try it. If you can touch your toes, it’s somewhat the same principle. Or like some of you have suggested, lay across your bed and let your head/hair down. I’ll give it a shot and see what happens…..

  32. 61

Can u do it with hair extension fixed in?

  33. 62
    Jessica says:

Thanks for that information…I’ve had relaxed hair for 4 years and last year I decided to go natural. My hair has grown and getting back my natural hair and coz i can’t use creams I’ve used coconut oil (homemade) and noni oil (also homemade). I might try out this method tonight :) thanks BHI

    Charlene says:

I’ve been using IM for the past 4 months. After the 1st month I didn’t notice any length growth. After the 2nd month, I notice 1/2″ growth, but my hair was getting thicker. After the 3rd month my hair was so thick I could barely get a comb through it. After the 4th month I noticed 1″ and more thickness. I only put a little oil on my scalp each of the 7 nights and massage for at least 10 minutes and then invert for 4 minutes.

I noticed that no one else has asked this question, but I’m very curious to know…..since I’m taking hair vitamins that promise growth also, should I see double the growth? i.e. growth from the IM plus more growth from the hair vitamins. Or will my hair just have the 1 growth spurt from one or the other?
