I know I bleat on about protective styling, hey, hair growth is the point of BHI’s existence and protective styling is vital if length is your ultimate goal. However, some of you are still not convinced about using weaves in your hair regimens.
Celebs tend to wear extensions* mostly as a way to protect their own hair from the ravages of constant backstage hair styling. As a nice side effect, a lot of them have discovered the growing power that leaving-your-hair-alone can have.
These are busy women and I can’t imagine that they have a great deal of time for hair so I’m sure that a lot of them have good stylists who give their tresses protein treatments and steam sessions while imparting their wisdom. If you are a follower of BHI and have been using a good hair regimen, I’m sure you would have superior length retention by adding weaves or in fact any other protective style into the mix.
Don’t let the fear of getting a Naomi Campbell hairline scare you, weaves are an excellent protective style and when done correctly, they can retain length just as well as any other.
Here are 5 celebs who don’t neglect their own hair even though they rock extensions* majority of the time.
Cameshia Le'chette Hall says
I still cant completely feel convinced of it. I’ve always had bad hair. It feels like no matter how much protective styles i do my hair breaks off. Its just apart of my gene line.
Brittney Holland says
Have you tried a Biotin supplement? It will strengthen, thicken, and make your hair shine. I take 10,000 mg. You can find it on Amazon.
Cameshia Le'chette Hall says
Yes i take biotin and the only thing it helps are my nails and it has already been proven to only help some people basednon genetic makeup.
Keshia Bryan says
No such thing as “bad hair” hun. You just have to learn what works for your texture of hair. What works for some may not work for all.
Nyala Nan says
Too much biotin makes your hair break (from my experience) I find that increasing omega fish oil, vitamin B, folic acid, vitamin A, C and D works. And I had the same problem with breakage. It takes about 3-6 months to see improvements but I still get some breakage due to the kinky coils knotting up at the ends and breaking off during washing, combing (even finger combing when wet). However the vitamins help to make the hair stronger and retain moisture better.
Rebecca Belle says
Works for me
Niesha-Nike Edwards says
Honestly I feel like weave protective styling isn’t for everyone, I don’t think you have to have your natural hair covered everyday of the year. It defeats my purpose of returning to my natural hair state to begin with. To each his own though
Russhell Carroll says
exactly! i understand wearing it whilst the hair grows out but why still wear it everyday when the hair has grown??
Shameka Smith says
Yes! Why have this beautiful hair hidden under a weave that you’re never showing. You’re protecting it for what if you’re never going to show it. You may as well have broken off damaged hair because who will ever know when you wear a weave 365.
Wendy Jean-Louis says
most people wear it during the cold winter moths which can end up doing more damamge wearing it out all the time
Patricia Hunter says
No one wears it 365, you have to let your hair breathe at least a mth or 2 in between installations.
Niesha-Nike Edwards says
No, I’ve seen people wear it at least 360. Some people you will never see their natural hair, my best friend is one of them. And Wendy, I understand that, I never said they didn’t . Sometimes, I myself, wear protective styling during winter and summer months. However, i don’t feel like “protective styling” is a necessity. I’ve only had weave (for the looks and style not protective styling properties) in my head a handful of times in my 2.5 years natural and am a few inches away from BSL. So I don’t think it’s a must BUT to each his own
Quecina Burts Nute says
Yes I agree every couple of months … I get it … But covered an entire year … My opinion that’s crazy… But as we say “to each its own”… I wear wigs every couple of months … mainly now I wear a bun or protective twists every few months… But I suppose as celebrities weaves give them day-to-day versatility without harming their natural hair… Then when they have off-season they might be too lazy to deal with their own hair… Idk
Cheyenne X Revfrolutionist says
Theis hair still has thin spots n heat damage. Find me a person who wears weaves with no heat damage.
Shāy Ponts says
When I wear mine, I usually do so with no leave-out. No heat damage here!
Cheyenne X Revfrolutionist says
That’s what I’m talking about!! Everyone else has damaged leave out
Ronnella Powell says
Yeah, I was just about to say get a full weave and not any leave out. Also if you do have leave out use jumbo rollers or smaller roller for tight curls or looser curls and comb it out to be straight with the large rollers
Cheyenne X Revfrolutionist says
Good idea ^^
Zinzi Williams says
I never have heat damage and i only straighten the leave out once a month and it stays straight the whole month. But i only leave the sew in, in for 8 to 10 weeks soooo lol
Tammie Faulkner Taylor says
Why would a person that wears kinky curly /curly/kinky textures have heat damage?
Cheyenne X Revfrolutionist says
They still straighten their leave out sometimes to “blend” ^^^
Ali Crawford says
I can’t stand weave imo
Alice Caldwell says
Its working for me!! Though I do stay breaks
Dahlia McQuarn says
Her hair always been long
Ashley Elaine Plummer says
Most of these women featured are not protective styling they just like weave.
Yolanda N Wilson Rodriguez says
Your right they should just say that they like weaves . I love weave I wear my hair weaves all the time and I love it
Ni-Ni Patterson says
Not a shock. Their hair is weaved up most of the time. A.S. has had long hair for as long as we’ve seen her in the spotlight anyway. It’s already been proven that you will get little to no breakage when you aren’t manipulating your hair every other minute like plenty of people who don’t know how to care for their hair. Therefore, you can actually see the growth. And there are people who can do whatever and their hair grows like weeds.
Toi Ross says
Naahhh, I’m good!
Stephanie Sian James says
Works for me too
Markisha Tingle says
its not for Everyone and it will thin yours hair whats the point of having long hair if its thin you wont know Its thin till it straightend
Jamillah Clark says
You have to take breaks tho. Not keep a weave your whole life you will be bald headed lol
Jasmine Sherelle says
Works for me I take plenty of breaks tho and make sure to still keep my scalp cleansed and moisturized even with it being sewn up
Amanda Denise says
Old fashion taking care of your hair promotes growth too…just sayin
Gilliana St Croix William says
Totally agree to this post! My hair grows quicker and fuller when I wear a weave.
Tina Waters says
They prove it works FOR THEM. No two heads of hair is the same
Tina Waters says
I’m so sick of the term “protective style”. The term is used for EVERY hair style. What isn’t a protective style?
I can’t imagine all that tugging and pulling of a weave is healthy. Not to mention that you can’t get to your scalp to clean it or to condition your hair.
Felicia Hamilton says
Lol for what they pay their stylist, they’d better have healthy hair under there!
Shyanne Bambino says
No money does
