Sheilo Hair Products – Hydrate Line Review

I adore conditioner. After my hubby and daughter, the thought of a new conditioner is the only other thing that gets me jumping excited. So when I was asked to review the HYDRATE hair product line of Shielo.com it was more of a treat than a chore.

My samples arrived and I promptly trotted off to the bathroom to test drive my goodies. My samples size bottles did not have an ingredient list a fact I realised when I was already soaking in the shower and being too lazy to get out and check on their website first, I decided to live dangerously and just use them and face the consequences later.

The HYDRATE Moisturizing Shampoo went on smoothly with plenty of foaming. My hair was squeaky clean afterwards, a bit stripped, the work of sulphates no doubt and I was right. I found out later that the second ingredient is Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate. Not a reason in itself not to use the shampoo but us curly haired ladies can only use sulphates very sparingly.

Onto the HYDRATE Vibrancy conditioner and I smiled as the familiar scent wafted up to my nostrils. Vanilla, cocoa butter scents that reminds of Palmer’s Cocoa Butter that my mother used to use when I was a child. I used to sneak to her dressing table and dip my grubby little fingers into the jar and slather the stuff all over my arms and face. It smelt so good, I even remember tasting it at the time, it tasted horrible!

This conditioner is thick and luxurious and I would be inclined to use it as a deep conditioner rather than a 3 minute rinse out. It left my hair very soft feeling the way it does after my co-wash with my usual favourite conditioner. Impressive but what’s in it?

Looking at the ingredients afterwards, apart from a very long ingredient list which I am never comfortable with, I didn’t find much that I completely object to. Amidst the shea butter, lemon peel and apple listed in the ingredients, a few proteins including hydrolyzed corn and wheat and glycerin are prominent which not many would find objectionable. The hydrolyzed proteins make it suitable to use as a deep conditioner. There is one silicone however, Amodimethicone but I don’t mind cones personally and if used along with regular clarifying or shampooing to remove build up this conditioner would fit nicely into a good regimen.

It bears a mention that both shampoo and conditioner retail for $22.49 excluding shipping so I would probably purchase with the mind to using it in addition to my usual products and not to replace my current ones!

Never heard of this brand. Will give the conditioner try. I cowash with my normal conditioners (cheap one’s) and deep condition with Argan Hydrating mask. Need a change up. THANKS!

Cool. Give the shampoo a miss, it’s not anything special. The conditioner is lovely though…
