True. I do think curly hair is weaker in general. Even natural sisters get more breakage than straight haired naturals.

I disagree slightly. Curly hair is inherently weak because of its structure, you only have to look at hair studies to see the proof. When I say that curly hair is weak, I am comparing it with naturally straight hair. If you look at natural hair as the constant then of course it is not weak, it is normal full strength hair. I agree however that a person would have to learn a new way to care for their hair if they go natural from being relaxed.

At the bends of the natural curl there is no weak spot. That shows the strength of the hair because it takes strong chemical bonds to hold that curl together. Dry manipulation of the natural curls would cause breakeage because there is no h20 to break the bonds holding the curl together. Relaxed hair tangles also, just in a different type of way because it clumps together and is frail and more prone to breakage when detangling, even when wet. Natural hair in its natural state is not structurally weak in any way. The only problem a person would have to face when deciding to go natural is leaning a whole new way to care for their hair. Hair tips will naturally split from normal wear and tear, but relaxed hair will break at tips and roots between perms. That is why natural hair is usually thicker and longer. :)
