Girl, my jaw dropped, but how presumptuous of me to have such a reaction but sometimes you cant help it, it just goes to show how this journey messes with your mind. Simplyounique has been MIA from YouTube for a little while and it turns out that she relaxed her hair. When I watched her video I totally got what she was saying, sometimes life happens and you have to do whats best for you.
When you change your hair nowadays especially on YouTube you should expect some criticism of your decision even though its your hair and you can do what you want with it. It comes with the territory, well for the record there is no judgement here, her hair is gorgeous and long as hell hec.
I will say this though, relaxed hair is not easier, its just relaxed hair, so if I had one thing to say about Kerry’s decision it would be to not look as relaxed hair as a solution to stress. At the end of the day though it is still her perspective, so there is not much more to say on that.
Kerry, will be just fine, one thing the natural journey has taught most of us is how to focus and care for our hair, relaxed or natural. here is what she had to say from her channel:
Hi Everyone! This is an update hair video. Life threw a few curve balls my way and I could not maintain the hair prepping, detangling or styling of my hair in it’s natural state. It became extremely time consuming as my hair got longer, so I gave myself two option.. And that was either to cut it all off or to just relax it. I chose to relax my hair for no other reason than for the convenience of it. Unfortunately I have not been taking care of my hair because it is no longer on the top of my priority list. Has my hair suffered? The answer is Yes! Now, I have to learn how to take care of relaxed hair.
We wish you all the best Kerry on your new journey, nobody is unsubscribing on this side of town so keep making videos we are right there with you.
Do you watch Simplyounique? What do you think about her change?
Dabney Ross Jones says
Her decision! I sorry to hear about her divorce.
Racquel Channer says
jus give her some space guys. give god the praise tht she’s ok to make videos again.
Margaret McCollin says
You don’t know what she’s going through at this time to make such a decision. We need to do what’s comforting to us and not think of what the majority might say. God Bless her
Jenice Mckenzie says
Her choice, natural hair is beautiful but hard to handle.
Lynne Young II says
Her hair her choice. There was no crime committed.
Gigi Sanon says
Omg I’m really tired of seeing this, what is it a big deal? ?? Seriously, people relaxes their hair all the time. Leave her alone, you don’t even know her situation.
Chala M. Brooks says
I still love and support her either way. When you are going though things in life, you have to do what works to get through. I am a fan for life because she taught me how to do Bantu Knots in a simple way. She is awesome to me.
Miz Chin says
Whats the big deal, there are many ppl out there including myself with relaxed hair that are just as healthy as natural hair. She made a choice, now just let her live.
Patricia Jackson says
Beautiful hair
Lauren Ralph says
Relaxed hair is so much easier to handle and way more versatile , natural hair is boring
Camella Rose Jones says
You sound dumb
Lauren Ralph says
How’s that
Cathy says
Actually I found it just the opposite. With relaxed hair I had to arrange my life around the stylist. I wrecked my hair with a DIY touchup and it only really looked good the week after a visit to the salon. Natural hair I style when I feel like it (like when I’m watching TV) and bun it up otherwise. I can stretch it with a braidout or shrink it with a wash n’ go. As for this blogger, whatevs. That said she shouldn’t be surprised that people who want to hear about natural hair unsubscribe. Hopefully she’ll pick up folks who want to hear about relaxed hair.
Sashel Newby says
Omg :O
Krista Bella Thurman Hopper says
Beautiful…. And her choice…. Who says i wouldn’t eventually do the same thing… I hope not but who’s to say
Dee Hammond says
I think she shouldn’t relax it and embrace the natural texture.
Dee Hammond says
She could just get blow outs on her natural texture and those results similar to what a relaxer would achieve. She’s damaging her hair follicles and scalp with such chemicals.
Debbie Meeks says
She had to do what worked for her. No judgement here.
Zelone Miah Lovence says
its your hair sweety who cares what ppl say
Melissa Parker says
If you don’t stand for something you fall for anything…i believe this is just what you did…FALL!!!!
Leenayka Yulaykis Isaac says
Pretty now let’s hope it doesn’t all fall out and break off
Emelda Munsanje says
Still love her
Brijette Louden says
Relaxed or natural, our ultimate goal should be HEALTHY HAIR. Its obvious that she has been taking care of it.
Alana Lewis says
Either way, her hair is beautiful and more importantly appears to be healthy.
Christina DT Kirtz says
team healthy and relaxed 🙂
Priscilla Pokua Antison says
she rocks it either way…best of both worlds.no biggy. let her rock it as it pleases her and let us support and accept and encourage her
May Bills says
how long did it take to attend this length?
Cynthia Stallworth says
When we judge others . we bring judgment on ourselves.
Novelette Phillips says
She’s going through a hard time at the moment, ease up on her folks. Its her hair.
Ni-Ni Henderson says
Yep. She is going through a divorce. The state of your hair isn’t the be all end all. As soon as some of y’all realize this Natural vs. Relaxed state of mind is a waste of time and only creates further division among us, maybe real topics that actually matter can be discussed and fought for.
Corrine Rodshay Payne says
Whoever said that natural hair is boring and relaxed hair is more versatile is a straight up lie! I respect her decision, but don’t bash others for choosing to be natural.
Chyna Mon'et says
I’m natural and haven’t put a perm in over 15 years but it is harder to manage and less versatile than when I had perms lol.
embeeh says
absolutely, there shouldn’t be any bashing over someone’s personal preference…there is no wrong way to eat a Reese’s…JS
Charlene Jeffers says
At the end of the day it’s HER hair. What she chooses to do with it and too it shouldn’t effect you.
Hair's Robin says
Thank you Corrine Rodshay Payne she made that up don’t make me upload a collage…what is so much more exciting about relaxed hair all you can do with it is flat iron oooh wait you can flat iron natural hair too and what an easier ponytail, maybe some curls I’m sorry but everything you can do with relaxed hair you can do with natural hair the difference is natural hair is fuller and thicker and you can go back to the big tight curls and wash n go styles with relaxed your stuck straight
Hair's Robin says
Ive been both and those are facts
Lorenza Jackson says
Noooooo! Awww man. Well, as long as she is happy.
Rochelle Corilette Liyah Warner says
I’m disgusted that this page continues to beat people when they are down! As a hair page you know exactly what she is going through, and all you want to do it point out that she’s relaxed her hair. She’s going through a what I can only imagine to be a horrible time mentally and emotionally! KNOW YOUR PLACE BHI!! Give her the space she deserves!!
LaShon Renee @ For the Love of Curls says
I was sorry to hear about her divorce. Sad she relaxed it but it is gorgeous.
Shāy Ponts says
Healthy hair is what matters – relaxed or natural. Your hair can be unhealthy relaxed if you don’t properly care for it, and your hair can be unhealthy natural if you don’t properly care for it. Please don’t forget that this is Her hair, growing from Her scalp, so this is Her choice. #teamhealthyhair
embeeh says
Exactly!
Abimbola Oduwole says
i’m just owrried if her hair will hold up like that, but otherwise she’s still fabulous! she can handle it
Joycelyn Lanae says
This doesn’t shock me. I could have swore she got a texturizer when her hair got longer. I understand hair length change the texture, but she was neck length and her hair pattern was dramatically different. I could be wrong, but thats what I think
Candi Ballard-Zolicoffer says
Well to each their own just don’t expect me to go for that been natural for 10yrs way before we had all this help and products but hey its all her choice hope it stays healthy
Roslyn Richards says
Whatever works for her.
Raven Downing says
Sad
Burned Lesson Learned says
Nice sew in tho
Shāy Ponts says
I just watched her Relaxed Hair 2014 Update, thanks to this link, and I must say that I was sorely disappointed that she finds her relaxed hair lacks versatility. I love my relaxed hair, and change up my styles often… We are not simply limited to ponytails and buns or flat ironed hair, as some lovely person pointed out above; I love my Bantu knot outs and twist outs as well as other styles. I hope she finds an inner peace…
Portia Motsage says
True, this is about her hair not her personal life. Her hair is nice but i am dissapointed because i used to watch her videos and she would give us ideas on how to do our hair and what products to use. .But that being said, its her hair and she can decide what to do with it. We all go through high’s and low’s and so we must just go with what feels right for us. She might start tutorials on relaxed hair which will be awesome still!!
Monica Askew says
Why can’t we just say that her hair looks wonderful!!! And leave it at that.
LeeCynthia Franklin says
This is her choice! People need to stop looking up to people and look up to themselves!!
Tianne Taylor says
I mean is her hair so she has the right to do whatever she wants to do with it. most people who are anti perm and anti weave are the ones who are newly natural. so their opinion doesn’t matter! relaxing your hair is meant to be safe.. but some people are closed Minded and think it will burn off your whole entire hair. no the only way It can burn off your hair if you be a dumb person and leave it in there for 8 hours or 10. people hate this phase.. but it’s just hair. just because she decide to relax HER hair does not mean she is a different person! when I am at school I feel a little bit different and unique than others because now the natural curly long hair is pretty much trendy now. short hair and don’t care. lol so people still have a problem with natural versus relax well I just want you to know if you’re in either of those groups then I just want you to know that you’re stupid.
I am on #Team haircare
it’s all about healthy hair. so people please stop bashing other people because it’s none of your business what they do what their hair. if you worry so much about her hair then you probably are miserable yourself and don’t have a life. 🙂
Joslin Henry says
Her choice.
Khaila Brinkley says
Her hair, her business! Looks healthy and great!
Carmella McCoy says
Her hair is still the bomb
S.C. says
For me relaxed hair is easier. I like to wear my hair straight more than curly and relaxed hair allows me to do that with less fuss. I also don’t have any problem working out every day or going in the pool should I want to so I don’t get why people claim people with relaxers can’t do this. I have been contemplating going natural. 14 years of relaxer I can’t even remember what my natural hair was like. I look at old photos, but I also realize my mother was the one doing my hair so it worked out well because she kept it nice. So right now I’m thinking go natural. I shall see when I’m another seven weeks out from my last relaxer if I am still so inclined to do so. As for this woman, it’s her hair, it looks good and if she wants it relaxed that’s her choice to make.
Kelly says
I think women who said that couldn’t work out with relaxed hair were slaves to the hair salon. Relaxed hair can be washed or blow dried straight after a workout so I never understood people who said their hair reverted. I think a lot of women didn’t know how to care and style their relaxed hair on their own.
Either way good luck to you. I went natural for a year and I thought about doing the big chop a few months ago. But I prefer to wear my hair straight and my hair is healthy with or without a relaxer because I take care of it.
Synamon says
Not surprised she relaxed her hair. Her journey was one of curiosity. She said from the beginning her relaxed her was always long and healthy. Most of us on our natural journey were tired of the breakage caused by chemicals or scalp issues, which makes it a bit personal then curiosity. No offense to Kerry, I’m still want to get all the info on her hair as she is willing to give. Much love, Kerry!
leigh says
Damn people commenting saying its her hair her choice sounding like parrots. Ok we get it no need to say it a thousand times. But on another note I unsubscribed to her after seeing the video simply because I dont care why she relaxed or if it is her hair. I dont know her , I subscribe to channels for information about natural hair not to become a true subbie. Im natural so if you go back relaxed I dont care what the reason is, youre relaxed, so there for, anything video you make now im not interested in looking at relaxed hair videos. Its nothing personal bu I want natural hair tutorial ot relaxed.
On another note, i can understand why people would be upset.going natural you get so much crap from relaxed females saying you cant do it. If you are a new natural who doesn’t have a clue on natural hair then it is inspiring to see someone prove the peanut gallery wrong but when they throw the towel in it can be disappointing to some. But no need to bash a person over just find new a natural hair person to subscribe to.
