Curly Nikki tackled this topic a year ago as well and the writer extensively spoke about the lies companies feed us to get us to purchase their products. She identified that in fact there are chemicals in the TMS system that will change the structure of your strand.
Here is an excerpt:
“Some companies are starting to employ formaldehyde’s cousins such as gluteraldehyde or glyoxal in their systems and marketing that as a positive attribute. What they forget to mention is that they react with the hair in the same manner that formaldehyde does.
The compounds expose the stylists and salon patrons to the exact same health issues. Gluteraldehyde or glyoxal may perhaps be weaker than formaldehyde but the companies may be using as much or even higher percentages to achieve the same effective straightening.” – Dr. Ali Syed, The Truth About Keratin (BKT) Treatments
Lets get back to Chime’s video, I can appreciate her honesty in the video, you will notice that her natural hair is very much different from what it used to be back in the day. I think she probably learned a very valuable lesson from her experience.
If you watch her reversion video a year ago she was very nervous about her hair reverting because of how straight it was. See below:
In the video it appeared that her hair did revert, it was styled in some sort of braid or twist out which doesn’t really tell you if her hair truly reverted however, at the time my perspective was, if you like it, I love it because at the end of the day it is your hair.
Now that Chime is showing her damage it is very apparent that her work with Beautiful Textures was not just taking a chance with her own hair but her endorsement might have influenced others to walk down the path of curl destruction as well.
After all this is why Beautiful Textures chose Youtubers to support the brand. Companies do this all the time they pick the best influencers to do what they do best.. influence! Which leads to increased sales.
In the below video Chime talks about the first time her sister brought her changed curls to her attention and the differences she noticed about her curls. Chime mentions how much the changes bothered her, and how much having her own texture meant to her.
She also talks about the great things that came with having the TMS system like easy wash and gos and easy detangling.
In this video she shows a side by side of how exactly her hair changed:
This video is pretty important because she got heat damage when she had her hair curled which means that the extra heat pretty much loosened the curls even more than the TMS system had already done.
I am inclined to think that if you use the TMS system once and you continue to use heat after, your hair will get straighter and straighter until there is no kink or curl left.
It is important that we do our own research about the products that we use on our hair and this goes for our influencers like Chime and everyone else behind a laptop or iPad watching a video or reading this article. If you aren’t sure about something, walk away until you are sure.
Companies can be very deceptive and they will offer incentives for your coin, you just have to decide if it’s worth it for you and your hair.
In my opinion, it was not worth it for Chime, because as she admitted, what she has now is not what she wanted. If you like what the TMS system does after you have researched it then by all means go for it. After all some people actually like texturizers which is what the TMS system appears to have done to her hair.
The moral of the story is, if this system is for you then by all means support it after extensive research, if it isn’t, make that decision only after extensive research.

great read (TMS) I just noticed that product last week, read the back & set it right back on the shelf. Didn’t believe it
TMW says
Yep, I saw it for the first time 2 weeks ago, read the box and like you put it back.. I just knew it had to be some kind of texturizer regardless of how good they made it sound on the box.

This system changed my curl pattern with just one use. I said I would never use it again!!

That sucks so much! Her hair was SO pretty! But, I guess you live and you learn. I love her positive attitude and the fact that she warned us about it.
Enez Laurendine says
I like her before pic so with that being said I won’t be using this system
Pamela Smith says
Used it and love it. The change was a great thing for me. My hair was really coily and I couldn’t style it for nothing. Now I can do 2 strand twists and everything. It’s not recommended for everybody but there have been enough warnings by the ladies to help in your decision. I will be doing it again though because I like the looser curls and coils
Asha Jamia says
Nevermind. Don’t want it.
Amanda Denise says
This system is crap. Just get a Dominican blow out and call it a day

I absolutely love using it. I’m Afto American and Asian; and it’s works great on me. I use to use kiddie kits relaxer on my hair and I got tons of breakage and it was super dry. Using TMS has made my hair easier to deal with.

Not sure what really happened to Chime’s hair. One video she says it’s the TMS then she said she has heat damage. What I do know is what works for one does not work for all. I used the TMS and it worked for me. I only straightened my hair when I first put it in. I loved it because it made my hair a cinch to detangle. I washed it out after a couple of months & my hair came back to my thick & curly. I am back to the “hate to wash my hair on Sunday” mode. I will put it back in in 4 months. I only straighten my hair twice a year.
Ashley Blue says
Never used it. I got my flat iron

I just don’t understand, has no one heard of keratin treatment. No damage, reverted back after first wash, did not really change curl pattern and actually just washed out in 3 months. And for that three to four months, just made the hair easier to wear straight without any frizz. No damage at all, speaking from personal experience. Cost about 250, with no permanent change to your curl pattern and is not a mild perm aka texturizer. A perm is like what 60 plus a few touchups so about 240 in for months? Keratin treatment is still natural hair, as no permanent change to the structure of the hair shaft or curl pattern
Michelle Nicole Charley says
I get keratin treatments also once a year…..I love it also, it’s great! I limit it to once a year just because of the large amount of heat needed to press the hair, but over all I’ve been getting it done for about 3 years now.
Venus Aradia says
Chime’s curls look so very beautiful in the after shot.
Tiff Wilson says
Stop being cheap, buying drug store boxed kits and go to a professional. Not someone who does hair, but a hair care professional. Smh…will never learn.
Joycelyn Cannon says
I only do blowouts one a year. I’d be leary to try something like that
