Apparently Gracie is getting a baby brother! Remember last year when Cheerios came out with the cutest commercial showing a interacial family consisting of a little girl ‘Gracie”, with a white mom and a black dad?
Gracie was very concerned about her daddy’s health pouring cheerios all over his chest/heart as he slept hoping it will keep his heart healthy. The commercial sparked more than a few racist comments online at that time but with that there was also a huge outpouring of support.
The new commercial is cuteness overload and General Mills doesn’t seem to be at all phased by the ‘hate’ they received on YouTube and on their Face Book page back in May last year. Well done them!
The message from the food giant is clear and simple L-O-V-E, that’s it! With that said not everyone agreed, some called the commercial ‘disgusting’, making them ‘want to vomit’. Others suggested that the man ‘leave his family’.
On YouTube the comments were disabled on the video due to the controversy and the level of hate and craziness left on the page by people who we are guessing did not like the commercial.
There is a ton of muscle on the internet, it’s almost like everyone drinks protein shakes and pumps iron* when they are behind a computer screen. Commenter’s can be mean to the point of it being sad and silly.
We hope that this year we might see even more supporters for the commercial, even if you do not have to ‘like’ the concept of interracial relationships, gay relationships or whatever! After all we all have our own individual tastes and preferences. The thing is we have to respect each other as people regardless of race, color, curl pattern or creed.
The commercial will air during the first timeout of the super bowl and it cost GM approximately $4 million dollars, that’s a drop in the bucket for a great message right? Share your thoughts below on what you think of the new super bowl ad!

Love, love, LOVE the Cheerios commercials with Gracie and her family. I hope Cheerios will continue with this family (are they a real family or a TV family?) for another year or two. I can’t wait to see if Gracie gets her puppy 🙂 I’ve always enjoyed a bowl of Cheerios (especially the MultiGrain Cheerios) with some strawberries and/or bananas (or for simply munching when I feel like I want something sweet) but with these commercials, I’m definitely feeling a new love for Cheerios and what they are standing for. I hope they will stand strong against the haters out there. I’m willing to be that most folks either don’t care one way or another about the commercials or are a fan. The few folks that do care and don’t like the commercials are simply being noisy and there’s not enough of them to matter.
