Relaxed Hair Health Ideas And Articles

Since I started this website 3 years ago, the site has followed the wisdom and direction that guided me in attaining longer than bra strap length hair in that time. I have given advice based on what has worked for me in the past but I truly believe that BlackHairInformation.com should be a community website where we can all share what works for us. It reminds me of my favourite quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“As to methods there may be a million and then some, but principles are few.
The man who grasps principles can successfully select his own methods.
The man who tries methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

If we understand the principles of growing black hair long i.e. moisture, protein & low manipulation we can successfully attain the goal of longer hair via a variety of methods. I have given examples in the past of ladies who have grown their hair to extraordinary lengths doing just what hair gurus tell us not to do! Some will wash their hair just once a month instead of the more accepted weekly wash. Some swear by obscure products with dodgy ingredients that you wouldn’t be caught within 5 feet of. Some even believe that relaxing bone straight is the best kept hair growth secret!

My point is, a little variety never hurt anyone. I enjoy healthy debate and different points of view and as such we have had the pleasure of allowing guest posts from readers and other hair bloggers alike. Here and here as well as the multitude of hair stories and questions from our readers each giving their own point of view. We are now accepting guest blogger posts as a monthly feature of the website.

It seems a lot of ladies visiting this site have relaxed hair and because I’m natural, they think that the advice I give slants towards natural haired ladies. While a lot of my articles are general advice on building regimenspositive thinking and commentaries on products which can help both relaxed and natural heads, I agree that I have way more information for you natural sisters. In the spirit of fairness however, I have listened to your comments and this month we now have guest bloggers who cover both natural and relaxed hair topics.

About Alma

Hi! I'm Alma Ruddock, a full time blogger. I stumbled on a hair care forum in 2008 frustrated with my breaking relaxed hair and the information that I found there changed the fate of my hair forever!. I started BlackHairInformation.com as a way to help both myself and other women of color achieve their dreams of long healthy hair. I have now achieved my goal length and I continue to bring new information about hair on both this website and my personal blog.

    Iheartted says:

Is it ok to only wash my hair every 2 weeks but still moisturize & seal daily? I’m on my relaxed hair journey to grow it longer.

Gut feeling, no way. For most of us, by the time a week has gone by, your hair will already have lost all its moisture hence elasticity. Not to mention that using oil daily to seal will not only help keep some moisture in, it will also prevent proper moisturization with subsequent applications so that they are less effective. 2 weeks of that means dry hair not matter how you look at it. The only way to remoisturize is with a wash.
