Switching your workout to mornings
When you’re in full beast mode with your workouts, you feel like you can take on the world. Let’s face it, working out does give us that much needed energy to help prep you for what’s to come later in the day. Some of us may frown at waking up half an hour early for working out, but let’s face it. You owe it to yourself.
For your hair it might mean wearing a sweat band to preserve a style or just rinsing and doing a ‘wet’ style for the day. There is definitely some compromise there but the benefits far outweigh any negatives you could possibly find.
Mid-Length to long natural hair with heavy cardio
If you’re into strenuous activities like P90X, or Insanity several times per week, opt for wearing a wash and go style. When you wake in the morning, hopefully you’ve mini-pineappled with ouchless bands* the night before.
This helps to keep the ends free of sweat and even gives you a little stretch ability. After your workout, shower, take the bands out and apply your choice of moisturizer or gel and you’re out dressed and out the door.
Now, if wash and go’s aren’t your forte, then you may prefer puffs, buns, or braids. You may want to try these out on your heavy cardio days.
Short natural hair with heavy Cardio
If you have short natural hair, then maintaining an active lifestyle is probably like cake. Wash and go’s are easier to maintain during strenuous workouts.
A simple regimen may consist of moisturizing or misting with some leave in and oil, pulling on a stretchy headband*, and working out.
After exercising, you simply refresh hair by rinsing with some water, apply a little leave in conditioner*, add a little moisturizer to revive those curls, some gel or custard, towel dry, arrange the hair the way you want it to fall and bam! You’re done!
Roller sets
I love the flexibility of my natural hair. When I want to really stretch my coils, I’ll utilize this style twice a week, usually during my weight lifting days.
It helps to pin curl hair with bobby pins* or clips. Once you’re completed your workout, wait a little and add your choice of product and manipulate your strands to its previous style by rolling the hair around your finger. Hair is like clay.
The moral of the story is, do not let your hair dictate your workouts because the truth is a healthy body over all is what your hair needs to remain healthy anyway.
